Volunteer mentors needed for young people across Greater Manchester!

REF: 6751a111dc387

One Million Mentors (https://onemillionmentors.org.uk/) is a unique, community-based mentoring programme, bringing together local young people and volunteer mentors who give an hour a month for up to a year. Since 2018 we've successfully partnered with over 40 schools, colleges, universities and youth organisations across Greater Manchester, creating over 1,500 mentoring relationships. We recruit our mentors from a variety of professional backgrounds and provide them with specialist training and ongoing support. We then match them with a young person aged 14-25 based on the mentee's goals and aspirations, targeting young people with high potential but low social capital.

Role

Do I have what it takes to be a mentor?
You don't need to have previous mentoring experience, just:
- 5 years work experience (or 2 post-graduate)
- A listening ear
- A willingness to understand the issues young people in Manchester are facing in the current climate
- Capacity to volunteer an hour a month for up to a year

Through our excellent training, Induction Workshop webinar, 6 different Skill-Build webinars (optional), the resources on our platform and also support from ourselves and our Youth Partners, we'll equip you to be the best mentor you can be. You'll encourage and guide your mentee, assisting them to explore career options, increase their confidence, build their soft-skills and give them insight into the world of work. If you can provide access to your networks and opportunities that's brilliant in addition to mentoring, but not required of you. 78% of mentors have said 1MM Mentoring has increased their confidence. 48% said they felt their own skills had improved.
