Digital champion - York street Community Centre, Edgeley

REF: 6661ecc85749d

Would you like to help more people in Stockport to use the internet or feel more confident using a computer? Tech genius NOT required! Your everyday knowledge using a smart phone or browsing websites is enough. It's really tough these days to get by without getting online, which is why Digital champions are important! Have you helped friends or family to use their computer or phone? Do you want to help your community? Then being a Digital champion volunteer is for you! We give full training to all volunteers, as well as ‘top up’ training on current issues or things you need to know. The York Street digital class always has a member of staff from Starting Point, who runs the session. You will be part of a friendly group of volunteers, so you will never be there on your own. Contact Clara, Volunteer lead at Starting Point to find out more – clara@startpoint.org.uk. Text Clara on 07874 042 365 or ring 0161 494 9947. Leave us a message so we know you’ve called, as we don’t return all missed calls.

Role

This role is supporting people who come to Starting Point's digital class in Edgeley every Tuesday. Our learners want to feel more confident to use computers, or they want to learn new digital skills. Some people have tasks to do like editing a CV or looking up information online. Other people want to get skills for work, want to try online shopping, struggle with their emails, or have questions about using their device. If you are friendly and enjoy talking to people that's brilliant. If you are patient and happy to explain how to do tasks on a computer that's perfect. If you've helped family or friends to learn something new, then you have perfect experience for this role. This role is on Tuesdays 2-4pm

We welcome people with disabilities to volunteer with us, please talk to us about any reasonable adjustments we can make to help you volunteer. You do need to volunteer in a sometimes noisy environment. We welcome people who are learning English – you do need to read online information and feel happy to explain how to do digital tasks to other people.
