Role
Supported by staff at Stockport Continuing Education service, and other Digital champions, you’ll be helping learners in their drop-in digital help sessions. Studying at SCES involves some digital skills - learners can submit their course work online and will have tasks set by tutors on the online learning platform BKSB. They might want to use fun apps to help them learn, or need to fill in online forms, feel more confident using devices, or want to browse the web. That’s where you come in! Sessions take place Tuesdays and Weds 12.30 - 1.30pm term-time only. Volunteers can help at one session or both. We’re looking for six Digital champions to share this role, so you won’t need to volunteer every week, unless you want to. Volunteering will take place at the SCES building. Daw Bank, Stockport SK3 0EQ We give full training to all volunteers, as well as ‘top up’ training on current issues or digital things you need to know. You’ll be given training in using BKSB (used by most education providers) useful if you are looking for work or further volunteering in Education. If you volunteer regularly, Stockport Continuing Education will fund you to complete a Level 1 qualification in Digital skills by Google. Contact Clara, Volunteer lead at Starting Point to find out more – clara@startpoint.org.uk. Text Clara on 07874 042 365 or ring 0161 494 9947. What are our volunteers like? Everyone is different! Some of our volunteers are retired, some are looking for work. Some are trying something new after being unwell or children becoming part of their family. Please tell us how we can help you feel included whatever your culture, ethnicity or sexuality. We welcome people with disabilities to volunteer with us, we can give you all the info about our sessions and venue. Please talk to us about adjustments we can make so you can volunteer happily with us. You do need to volunteer independently in a sometimes noisy environment. We welcome people who are learning English. You do need to read online information and feel happy to explain computer based tasks in English. Language skills are a plus in this volunteer role, as some learners at SCES are learning English themselves.
