Communications Officer

REF: 67dc55da2a5f8

We have now carried out several successful projects which have improved many of the spaces around Reddish Vale and elsewhere and which have won praise from local residents and organisations which support volunteer groups including Stockport Council. We have been nominated three times for awards in the last year. Now, although our reputation is very good locally, we feel that we need to raise our profile to attract more volunteers and make more impact with funding bodies. The time of our four committee members is fully committed to the day-to-day running of the group, basic admin and applications for funding as well as actual work in the field. So we need to recruit an additional member to the group who will handle communications and publicity for us.

Role

The Communications Officer will have an opportunity to use and develop their skills by handling communications between Greenspace Volunteers and other organisations, individuals and the wider public. Working with other members of the committee, the post holder will engage with social media, local press and umbrella organisations like Forever Manchester, creating publicity materials and messaging to promote our image and bring our activities to a wider public.
Essential requirements: excellent communication skills both written and spoken.
Desirable: experience of social and/or print media.
It would also be an advantage if the person could join us in our outdoor activities (see All-round handy person to work outdoors in Reddish Vale Country Park and surrounding areas REF: 67c4d59824d80).

Greenspace Volunteers

Organisation description:

We are a group of volunteers who are trying to maintain and improve the greenspaces around Stockport. We aim to engage with the local communities to see what they want from their greenspaces and encourage them to take pride in their local slice of greenery. So far, our work has mainly focused around Reddish Vale Country Park, working with and supporting local community groups. Among other things, our volunteers have done a lot of: grass-cutting, leaf-blowing, litter-picking, overgrowth-clearing, tree-pruning, fence fixing and much, much more! We have also repaired and replaced broken benches, and installed new benches, tables and planters at the request of local residents and greenspace users. We are always looking for new volunteers to join our group.
