Activity volunteers - Stockport

REF: 673b988c479eb

Pure Insight work with young people who have left or are about to leave care (children's home or foster care). Together we tackle any issues the young person may be facing, celebrate achievements along the way and support those first steps into adulthood when support is so important, but so often lacking for care leavers.
We offer our young people a range of activities to build up confidence and social networks, and as part of our package of services to tackle mental health challenges many care leavers live with. This work is an important part of the jigsaw of support that builds to create a whole picture of support, including mentoring (separate volunteering opportunity), 1:1 psychological wellbeing work, young parenting support and education, employment and training support.

Role

Our activities provide vital support to our activities co-ordinator, so that we're able to deliver this important work.
Our young people might be kayaking, playing football, a day out at the seaside, or simply going for a relaxing and uplifting group walk. You'll be a consistent, reliable, empathetic and supportive adult helping out, getting involved, offering moral support and encouragement.
You might travel to the activity with the young people in our minibus, or you might give them a lift – and if that’s the case, anyone who has been in a car with a young person knows that’s rarely time wasted - being in a car with someone is often key to really insightful and meaningful conversations, or just enjoying a good chat about absolutely nothing. Some of our young people are quite isolated, so you can make a real difference there as well as while doing the activities!
Our volunteers are human beings at their very best, and in this role, we're looking for people to offer ad-hoc support, to support our young people age 16-28 (usually aged 17 - early 20s) who need adults to be there to enable trips to go ahead (staff will be present at all times).
Activities usually take place during work hours – Monday to Friday, 9-5 rather than on evenings and weekends, thought occasional weekend walks and trips do happen. We’d like you to be able to commit to an activity per month.

We'll DBS check you, and if you drive then we'll see your drivers licence. Having a conviction doesn't mean you can't volunteer, we'll just need to have the details of any conviction to assess.
You don't need any prior experience of youth work - we'll teach you all you need to know. To make sure that our young people are with people who understand what their challenges are, we created some it's interesting and relevant training to be a three hour session, during the day or in the evening in small groups, depending on when you're available.
