REF: 673f10468dd53

Who are we?

One Million Mentors (https://onemillionmentors.org.uk/) is a unique, community-based mentoring programme, bringing together local young people and volunteer mentors who give an hour a month for up to a year. Since 2018 we've successfully partnered with over 40 schools, colleges, universities and youth organisations across Greater Manchester, creating over 1,500 mentoring relationships. We're also partnered with numerous other local employers. We recruit our mentors from a variety of professional backgrounds and provide them with specialist training and ongoing support. We then match them with a young person aged 14-25 based on the mentee's goals and aspirations, targeting young people with high potential but low social capital.

Do I have what it takes to be a mentor?
You don't need to have previous mentoring experience, just:
- 5 years work experience (or 2 post-graduate)
- A listening ear
- A willingness to understand the issues young people in Manchester are facing in the current climate
- Capacity to volunteer an hour a month for up to a year
Through our excellent training, Induction Workshop webinar, 6 different Skill-Build webinars (optional), the resources on our platform and also support from ourselves and our Youth Partners, we'll equip you to be the best mentor you can be. You'll encourage and guide your mentee, assisting them to explore career options, increase their confidence, build their soft-skills and give them insight into the world of work. If you can provide access to your networks and opportunities that's brilliant in addition to mentoring, but not required of you. 78% of mentors have said 1MM Mentoring has increased their confidence. 48% said they felt their own skills had improved.

Next Steps!
Follow this link to sign-up as a mentor today: https://onemillionmentors.org.uk/become-a-mentor/
Complete your profile and excellent online training on our platform, and provide us with details of 2 references. We'll then allocate you to this Aquinas College programme. (If you're interested in mentoring but these dates don't work for you, please still sign-up as we've got plenty of other opportunities - both other timetabled programmes, and Independent mentees with whom you can arrange when, where and how you meet. View here: https://onemillionmentors.org.uk/become-a-mentor/ ) Through our platform we'll then match you with a mentee based on their goals and what you've said you can support someone with. If you don't already have one, Aquinas will organise and fund your DBS check. You'll be able to use our platform to access resources, guidance, to journal and to log goals. We also host online workshops for new mentors as well as skill-builds for existing ones. Alongside Aquinas, we at 1MM will also be on-hand to provide any support needed.
