Home-Start HOST Family Support Volunteer

REF: 663cdf89880fc

The volunteer will be supporting a family in Stockport (we also work in Tameside, Oldham and Glossop) who may be pregnant or have a child(ren) under five. This will be in a family's own home and for up to 2 hours each week. It may be as simple as listening non-judgmentally to a parent; it may be supporting a family to get to a group or local park; it may be supporting the family access financial support; it will definitely be supporting the parent and child bond. Our families may be feeling isolated; have mild to moderate mental health needs; lack confidence; have had twins or triplets; feel generally overwhelmed; the reasons families may need our volunteers is long. Volunteers join us because they want to contribute to the Stockport community; because they feel they would have benefitted when they were parents of young children from such support; they want experience in health and social care; they have experience with families. We welcome anyone who would like to work with families.

Home-Start HOST

Organisation description:

Home-Start HOST is a local charity of trained volunteers and dedicated, experienced staff. We help families with young children flourish during the years of early childhood, supporting parents across Stockport (and Tameside, Oldham and Glossop). Children who are raised in a stable and loving family environment are more likely to have a positive and healthy future. We are here to support parents, so they can give their children the best start in life. Our support is compassionate, confidential and non-judgmental. We match families who may be pregnant or have child(ren) under the age of five with a volunteer who will visit the family home for up to two hours each week. This could be for a chat; to support the family to go to a local group; to listen non-judegmentally. It may be the family are feeling isolated; have twins and feel overwhelmed; lack the confidence to go out as a family; have mild to moderate mental health needs and just need that extra support.
